STEMspressoxMuc: Celebrating women in STEM

The final event of #STEMspressoXmuc “Increasing representation of women in STEM and countering gender stereotyping in Albania” and marking the International Day of Women and Girls in Science brought together different stakeholders to foster discussion on women representation in STEM.

HE Elissa Golberg, Ambassador of Canada to Italy, Albania, and San Marino, during the opening remarks. Ambassador Golberg appreciated SCiDEV’s efforts to increase representation of Albanian women in STEM through the #STEMspresso project and invited everyone to take discussions beyond Tirana to advocate for inclusion and promotion of girls & women in STEM. She underscored the vital importance of empowering women in STEM, championing diversity, and amplifying human stories within the field.

The first session focused on “Taking the Women in STEM Discussion all over Albania”, focused on breaking barriers and expanding opportunities for women in STEM together with the input of Ereandra Robo, Fitore Sulejmani, Dea Elmasllari, Arjana Bardhi, Anxhela Vincani dhe Xhorxhia Behaj.

During the second session we discussed “Mainstreaming STEM Education and Thinking Ahead” and explored the crucial role of STEM education in shaping our future and fostering innovation, with insights shared by professionals in the field: Ina Nasto, Erjon Curraj, Elona Dhembo, and Rudina Zeqirllari.

The day was concluded with a discussion and recommendations on “Cross-Generational Knowledge Transfer: Connecting Retired STEM Teachers with New Generations of Teachers” for ensuring a legacy of excellence in STEM education. These discussions were shared with professionals from the STEM education field: Salvina Pellumbi, Elona Dhembo, Anisa Curraj and Teuta Xhindi.

The final event featured a STEM Career Workshop led by Elda Bajraktari, SHRM-SCP Bajraktari from EB Human Resources, and an interactive session with mock interviews organized in cooperation with Inva Hasanaliaj from United Consulting Albania which helped young women understand how to navigate the labor market and find their passion through STEM.
