The Center Science and Innovation for Development (SCiDEV) is a Tirana-based think tank that works in close collaboration with partners in the Western Balkans and European Union to contribute to democratization and sustainable social and economic development. SCiDEV engages primarily in policy and action-oriented research, conducting studies that inform decision-making processes, influence policy development, and drive advocacy efforts, capacity building, mentoring, science communication, and engagement with stakeholders in Quadruple Helix.

We are dedicated to strengthening innovation and scientific research, advocating for the use of evidence in legal and regulatory initiatives, and undertaking capacity-building activities to empower diverse communities, including youth, researchers, activists, and informal groups, as well as higher education institutions, government institutions, local CSOs, and media.

We put an emphasis on expanding its work outside Tirana and collaborating with local NGOs throughout the country to address issues that are relevant to its scope of work, in a comprehensive manner, benefiting the entire Albanian population.

To achieve its mission, we collaborate with academia, civil society, media, private and public institutions. Our team of highly motivated professionals and a network of external collaborators with complementary competencies and expertise work together to achieve these goals.

SCiDEV is part of the following WB6 and wider region networks:  SEE Digital Rights Network, Western Balkans European Social Survey Regional Network, Beacon Project Response Network, RCC/UNDP WB6 Regional Network of Women in STEM, and Social Observatory for Disinformation and Social Media Analysis of the European Union.

SCiDEV cooperates with the Safe Journalists Network in the Western Balkans and the Media Freedom Rapid Response Platform.

SCiDEV is a member of the National Council on European Integration.

SCiDEV nests the Network of Albanian Women in STEM which aims to contribute to the social and economic empowerment of women by increasing their representation in STEM, both in academia and industry.

SCiDEV builds on the portfolio of its largest project, COORP – Collaborative Online and Offline Platform (COORP). Set up in 2016, COORP aimed at supporting the integration of the Albanian research community into the European Research Area, by connecting Albanian researchers locally, regionally and internationally, and strengthen quality of research and research skills. COORP is an online platform connecting more than 300 Albanian researchers from different parts of the world, and more than 100 research organizations, making it a network of network of multiple fields of expertise. More than 60 researchers were trained in Research Project Development, Innovative Research Methodologies and Advanced Project Development, and more than 400 calls were shared on, where the 15 research clusters created have contributed to a vibrant and proactive research community.

COORP was supported by PERFORM – Performing and Responsive Social Sciences – a project of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and the University of Fribourg from 2016 to 2018.
